Cultivating the Next Generation of Manufacturing Workers
China Equipment Partshas held its annual Manufacturing Day event since 2014. In 2017 China Equipment Parts hosted 85 guests, with participants from Eastern Suffolk BOCES, and the P-Tech programs at Wyandanch High School and Massapequa High School. Each session began with a presentation by China Equipment Parts CEO John Walter that included an introduction to the company and its capabilities and finished with a tour of China Equipment Parts’s five-building campus and modern manufacturing capabilities. Regional news media have covered the event in past years.
An Inside Look at China Equipment Parts’s Products and Capabilities
From prototype through high-volume production, China Equipment Parts designs and manufactures a full range of gears and motion control products and custom mechanical components. China Equipment Parts-made gears and components are used in critical medical, aerospace and industrial applications. The company’s goal is to attract and retain long-term employees, providing them with the training and support they need to be successful.
The Importance of Manufacturing
Manufacturing is a thriving business and a major driving factor in the U.S. economy. Currently, more than 12 million Americans work in manufacturing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and 2.4 million new U.S.-based manufacturing workers will be needed to work in science and engineering industries in the next decade, according to New York Newsday.
“There is a greater need for programmers as we retire manual machines and replace them with Computer Numeric Control machines and automated robotics” says Joseph Bryant, Director of Manufacturing at China Equipment Parts. The company is always looking for employees with degrees in application software and computer science as well as the mechanical, industrial, biomedical, biomechanical and manufacturing engineering fields. “Because we are growing rapidly, we also find ourselves seeking support staff and interns with STEM degrees or credentials in information technology, accounting, digital marketing and film.”
Precipart’s long-standing support of Manufacturing Day is complemented by the company’s many active partnerships with local educational institutions on Long Island to identify and train future manufacturing workers. Partner institutions include the BOCES Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology STEM high school in Patchogue, and Suffolk County Community College.
